The east coast of Mauritius is renowned for its long, white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters. One of the most beautiful beaches on the island is arguably Belle Mare beach, which stretches approximately 10km along the coastline.
Despite being home to some of the island’s finest hotels and resorts, the east coast relatively un-developed in comparison with the north and west of the island. The east is also where you will find many of the island’s famous golf courses, including the famous Ile aux Cerfs course, which is located on a stunning island just a short boat journey from the mainland. Outside of the resorts however, the landscape is mostly comprised of sleepy villages and sugar cane fields.
The east coast is a little cooler and breezier from May to October due to the south-east trade winds. The cooling breeze can be welcome during the day, and we would just recommend bringing a light top later to wear in the evening.
