The west coast of Mauritius is the place to see the most spectacular sunsets on the island. It also entices visitors with safe swimming and good facilities for watersports and diving. Many of the island’s first resorts were built along this coastline, with beautiful beaches ranging from the white sands of Trou aux Biches in the far north to the Le Morne peninsula on the south-western tip of the island, it is easy to see why.

The west coast is one of the busiest on the island, and is also home to the capital, Port Louis. This bustling city is known for its French colonial architecture and busy markets selling a wide range of produce, as well as locally made arts and crafts. Visitors can also enjoy exploring the Caudan waterfront area, which boasts a selection of shops and restaurants. Further down the coast from the capital is Flic-en-Flac, home to the longest beach on the west coast, along with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars.
